Health Career Day 2025

Last week, students in the Honors Anatomy and Physiology classes at Colts Neck High School had an exciting opportunity to learn from professionals in the field and observe a surgery.

The event began with a group of Colts Neck High School alumni who returned to speak with students about various health career paths. The guest speakers included Dr. Amanda Kramer (Class of 2011), a cardiologist; Dr. Alexa Romano, DMV (Class of 2012), a veterinarian; Alexa Petriella, MS, ATC, CPT, PN1 (Class of 2010), an athletic trainer; and Elizabeth Connors, EMT-B (Class of 2022), a nursing major at Stockton University.

Students listened to the speakers share their career journeys and offered valuable tips on what to focus on during college. All four guests emphasized that the opportunity for Colts Neck students to take Anatomy and Physiology in high school is a significant advantage, as it helps them determine if this field aligns with their interests.

After the question-and-answer session, a group of students was invited to participate in a program through the Liberty Science Center, where they viewed a recorded neurosurgery procedure. A guide from the Liberty Science Center accompanied the students, explaining what they were witnessing during a craniotomy to remove a tumor.

This Health Career Event was organized by teacher Meghan Santonacita and Science Supervisor Dr. Maria Steffero.
